Most rescued kittens are placed in
our Sanctuary but in order to minimize the problem of the "no
room at the inn" situation, Kitten Action
also places kittens in carefully selected foster homes.

Foster parents fall into different categories:
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
those who are able to raise kittens from bottle-feeding
age (younger than 3 weeks of age) that require feeding every few hours;
|
| |
 |
those who care for weaned kittens (4 weeks and older)
that require feeding 3 or 4 times a day; |
| |
 |
those who can take in a mother cat and her kittens;
|
| |
 |
those who are able to take in feral (untamed) kittens
and care for them until they are tame and socialized. |

Foster parents
generally carry the cost of feeding the rescued cats and kittens in
their care while KITTEN ACTION supplies medical treatment
and veterinary care. KITTEN ACTION also takes responsibility
for finding homes for the kittens when they are old enough.
Immediately upon being rescued, all kittens are treated for worms
and fleas, and with homeopathic preparations that boost their own
immune systems. This treatment helps to prevent the occurrence of
'snuffles' (also known as cat flu), diarrhea and other illnesses
to which these kittens are prone as a result of the poor diet and
harsh environment in which they were living.
Foster parents are a vital part of KITTEN ACTION's
work and they have helped us to save hundreds of kittens' lives.
One of Kitten Action's foster parents put this site together for
the kittens that she has fostered http://users.stormnet.co.za/greg/foster_cats.htm |
